Over the course of the summer term the KS3 Gifted & Talented students took part in a workshop series run by Open-City.
The schools workshops are led by the Open-City education team with the generous support of volunteers from sponsor companies and local architecture practices. Workshops take place on-site and in some of the most exciting buildings and businesses in the City, including 6 Bevis Marks, the Gherkin, 99 Bishopsgate and Broadgate Tower.
Four workshops, including a tour of Cannon Place in the City of London, took place as part of ‘The Great St Helens Public Art Space programme’. Set amongst London's iconic architectural landmarks, such as the Gherkin by Norman Foster and the Lloyd’s building by Richard Rogers, this open air exhibition draws visitors into the City transforming the EC3 insurance area. The Sculpture Space is home to the City of London’s new programme of temporary public artworks. Developed as part of a long-term environmental enhancement project, the Sculpture Space aims to animate the public spaces in the area with world-class artworks to be enjoyed by workers, residents and visitors. This initiative brought architects and artists together to work with the G&T students in site-specific workshops. Students responded to architecture and the public art that was placed in six sites around the City of London this June.
The exhibition includes works from internationally renowned artists: Cerith Wyn Evans, Lynn Chadwick, Ben Long, Julian Wild, Nigel Hall, Paul Hosking, Peter Randall-Page, Antony Gormley, Jim Lambie and Richard Wentworth.
