ART AND DESIGN: PHOTOGRAPHY (GCSE)
In this course you will study the history of photography and the technical developments made in the subject over the past one hundred and fifty years.
Much of this work will be completed in your own time.
All work produced in class and at home is part of the coursework unit and must be completed to a high standard.
Assessment Structure
Over the two-year course you will produce two units of work. These units will make up the coursework component and the examination component. The examination component will be made up of eight weeks preparation and a ten-hour examination.
The coursework component is worth 60% of the overall grade.
The examination component is worth 40% of the overall grade.
The ideal candidate
- You will learn how to use a 35mmcamera and how to take and develop photographs.
- You will spend time in the darkroom processing your photographs.
- You will learn how to use a digital camera including how to take and download digital images.
- You will spend time enhancing and manipulating your digital images on computers.
- You will learn how to present and display your work, and you will work with visiting photographers on some of the project work.
- You will have the opportunity to complete a unit of work based upon making and changing images using digital technology.
- You will visit to photographers' studios, exhibitions and museums.
- You will be expected to research your work and keep workbooks throughout the duration of the course.
